Height is the weakest axis

GNSS height error is typically two to three times the horizontal error, because satellites are all above the horizon and none below. A phone that places you within three metres horizontally may be eight metres out vertically.

Which height are you reading

Phones usually report ellipsoidal height or an approximation of it, not the orthometric level used on site. The two differ by tens of metres in many regions.

Good enough for shape

For understanding whether ground rises or falls across a site, phone height is adequate. For drainage, foundations or any level that gets built, it is not.

Anchor to a benchmark

If you need workable levels, tie your readings to a point with a published elevation.
