Why it is checked

Days and machines pass between stake-out and execution. A peg that has shifted fifteen centimetres is invisible to the eye but not to the finished structure.

What is checked

Plan position, level and relation to the axis. All three can be wrong independently, so look at them separately.

What is recorded

Write the measured deviation, not just whether it passed. A record with numbers shows a trend; a tick box says nothing.

When it falls outside tolerance

Do not correct the peg quietly. Tell the site manager, record the deviation before and after, and keep both photographs. Points that repeatedly fall out usually indicate a problem with the control point itself rather than the work.
